Adrian Wu
Here are some of my favorite photos of Adrian Wu's design. They are from the Vancouver Fashion Week blog and it was a preview for his runway show last year.

Book Review - Nocturnal Animals
Nocturnal Animals is a new zine by Swedish artist Ragnar Persson. The zine is self-published but is sold on HUH Magazine's website. HUH Magazine's online shop features a variety of of cool magazines including Cabins & Woods and Guide to Unique Photography Magazine, who I blog for when I have a spare moment. But more than any of the other zines, Ragnar Persson's artwork looks the most naturalistic. Hence the title Nocturnal Animals. He includes the coffee stains and the marked out errors and it all only adds to the effect of looking through an artists sketchbook.
Much like the artistic zine by David Wilson, Persson's zine is fun to imitate. The drawings are detailed and, though they take hours to recreate, are wonderful guides on how to draw fur and scales. To check out Persson's artwork click here.

DIY Couture
DIYcouture has made an unusual clothing collection: rather than purchasing a garment, the DIYcouture customer purchases a book containing a set of simple, visual instructions, which help them to make that garment themselves.
To check out their website click here. DIY Couture will be featured in the next issue of The Fashion Press which comes out March 31st, get excited.
Ottawa Fashion Week 2010
Here are some shots taken at Ottawa Fashion Week with my film camera. They are from Adrian Wu's Spring/Summer 2011 line.
I also recommend to check out this beautiful promotional video for Adrian Wu. (Watching it full screen is definitely much better.)

Book Review - David Wilson
Little Paper Planes is a publishing company that creates an online presence and community for artists. With a blog, artist directory, and many meet'n'greet interviews, the site is full of inspiration and paper you can get your hands on. Their website includes zines, books, artwork, and stationary all created by independent sources. Recently I purchased a LPP book with the artwork of David Wilson. For only $10 it was pretty awesome.
As the LPP website states "This is part of the first book series from Little Paper Planes. The books were released in conjunction with the second LPP curated show, "Buddy System" at Rare Device in San Francisco. Each book is 5 x 8in, color cover and about 30 black and white pages inside. We let each artist have complete control for the inside, though kept each cover uniformed to be collected in a series." Each book has an online preview so you can pick which of the bunch you'll love.
This particular book in the series was really beautiful with intricate drawings of nature. The pieces are really detailed and fun to try and recreate. For any beginner artist, I would suggest getting this book and trying out the drawings for yourself. To see more about David Wilson's book click here.

The Joy of Toy Cameras
Hayley Brooks posted these photos about a year ago and the look and feel of them really caught my attention. These dream-like photographs were taken during her stay in Europe. What interests me is that she didn't just use a normal digital camera to document her trip, but used her beloved toy camera: the Diana.
Hayley, who is finishing her last year at Guelph, studies International Development and is hoping to enter Law school in the UK to specialize in Human Rights Law. Even though she has no background studies in Visual Art, she still has an impressive eye for photography and manages to take breathtaking shots.
During her exchange program in Norway, she started bringing her Diana around while traveling in countries such as Germany and Hungary. When asked about the reason why she chooses Diana over digital, she states: "it challenges me to actively engage with the moment, the place and the person that I'm documenting. I find that with a simple digital camera, it is very easy to point and shoot without thinking of the different factors affecting the frame. I also like the 'trial and error' aspect whereby opening up a newly developed roll of film is exciting because you don't know which ones didn't quite turn out and which one may surprise you."
Toy Cameras have always intrigued me. I love the fact that these simple plastic boxes are able to create such artistic and creative photos, which would be difficult to do with a digital camera without the help of photoshop. The low-quality lens, the light leaks and the blurring are for some considered as defects, but I see it as a gift. It gives the opportunity for chance to play an important role in photography. Not a single photo is going to look the same for anyone. I have recently bought a Holga camera for myself and I am very excited to explore the many possibilities that it gives.
This Sunday (the 23rd) I am taking part of a workshop in Ottawa entitled: Your Toy Camera 101. A graduate student from SPAO will be teaching students about the joy of toy cameras. It only costs 10$ and a vegetarian pot-luck will be happening at the end of class. If interested in participating, check out the event on facebook by clicking here. or email lesateliersottawa@gmail.com to RSVP for details.

New Year's Eve
Jessica D'Angelo's outfit was great on the 31st.
I give her props for pulling off the see-through men's shirt, the chunky heels and the beautiful vintage necklace.
