Ping Zhu, whose artwork has been featured in the New York Times and Conde Nast Traveller, is a freelance illustrator living in London. When asked to describe her art school experience she states that "it was similar to boot camp. It was hard at first, but you realize through nurturing better work ethics that you're only there because you want to be challenged and to see if you have what it takes to succeed." Ping paints a lot of animals because of her fascination with nature. "I love seeing how animals move and what nature tells them to do. I also enjoy painting people and the clothes they waer because it's fun to exaggerate forms. I dont' like painting things as they are, but rather its enegery because that is what you pick up when you look at any image. Add some humour, some 60s graphic vibes and I think that sums it up!"
While she was at Art Center it was part of the graduating process to have a functional website as your portfolio, which is one of the smartest requirements I've heard to date. In a global community it's the only way for people to see your work quickly and easily, and her website is definitely one to check out!
